The diptych shows repeated images of the two versions of the movie star. On one side Warhol uses a famous publicity photograph rendered on canvas that emphasizes her bleach-blond hair, ruby lips, and sultry, blue-eyeshadowed eyes. On the other side we see the images in black and white, some blurred and some fading, suggesting that the woman is being exploited and sexualized while the real person is fading. The use of the diptych reminds the viewers of religious altarpieces.
