• Soluble: soluble in water; can be digested by colon flora. Short-chain fatty acids produced that provide health benefits to the colonocytes. Decreases transit time in the upper GI, which aids with blood glucose control. Provides satiety. Binds bile acids (cholesterol) for excretion.
• Insoluble: Provides satiety. Bulks up the stool, which prevents constipation and decreases risk for diverticulosis and colon cancer.
