Title: Alopecia?
Post by: Rabidewok on Aug 22, 2013
The question is,
"A Muslim refugee presents to your clinic suffering from stress induced alopecia (hair loss). She has come from a war-torn area and arrived in Australia by long-journey on a boat."

1. What are the predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating and protective biological factors?
2. What are the predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating and protective psychological factors?
3. What are the predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating and protective socio-cultural factors?
4. If this client walked into your clinic, what questions would you ask the client in gathering data to create formulation?
5. What would you be mindful of when interacting with this client? Are there things you should or shouldn't do or say?

Its a very interesting topic and if anyone has any pointers in what I should be looking at, any links/diagrams/images/sites,etc. and the direction to take it would be very much appreciated :)

Malnutrition, stress leads to hormonal changes. Alopecia is caused by hormonal changes in genetically predisposed individuals; sometimes it could be due to the pulling of the hair (could be an African culture where hair is braided).
