Title: what is the factorial of a number of the form a/b for example how much is 2.4! ????? Post by: _vibram_ on Oct 4, 2013 there is no such factorial it's out ofmaths rules
Title: what is the factorial of a number of the form a/b for example how much is 2.4! ????? Post by: Nuggets on Oct 4, 2013 factorial by def. is for natural numbers. and 0!=1 by def.is added to it.
Title: what is the factorial of a number of the form a/b for example how much is 2.4! ????? Post by: darthcrazy98 on Oct 4, 2013 There is a way to calculate factorial of any number by using what's called Gamma function
gamma(z)=definite integrala 0 to infinity (t^(z-1) * e^(-t) dt and the relation between gamma function and factorial is gamma(x+1)=x! so 2.4!=gamma(3.4)=2.98120642681 Title: what is the factorial of a number of the form a/b for example how much is 2.4! ????? Post by: jteague44 on Oct 4, 2013 We can not find factorials for those type(a/b) of numerical values.
The factorial n!(say) gives the number of ways in which n objects can be permuted(arranged). There will be 2 objects or 3 objects but not 2.4 objects. I want to make clear for you that, the factorial is applicable for the positive whole numbers only and for other numerical values. Hope you got the correct answer. thanks Title: what is the factorial of a number of the form a/b for example how much is 2.4! ????? Post by: SMITHAM2 on Oct 4, 2013 First, I agree with the answer that factorials are only define for natural numbers.
There is however, the Gamma function from statistics. Gamma(t) = (integral from 0 to infinity)(e^(-x)x^(t-1)dx Has the property that Gamma(n+1) = nGamma(n) = n!. Factorial only applies to integers. But the Gamma function has the same behavior, and isn't restricted to just integers. Title: what is the factorial of a number of the form a/b for example how much is 2.4! ????? Post by: ffd100lts on Oct 4, 2013 So the question reduces to [2.4]!
