How were emancipated serfs providing for their families?

  A) Most emancipated serfs remained on the land as tenants, and in exchange for their freedom, paid the lords a lump sum or extra rent.
  B) They did not, as they fell into a life of destitution and poverty that resulted in malnutrition, famine, and disease.
  C) They moved to the cities and found work in guilds.
  D) They stayed outside of the cities and found work in the domestic system.
  E) They moved their families to homesteads in unoccupied territories of Europe to farm their own land.
