Post by: zulukudzu on Jan 15, 2014
Okay so my first exam I got an 84, but my second exam, which involved mostly of just drug memorization, I got a 71. For my course we have to know just the drug classes not every individual drugs. So how do you study for Pharm? Because I need to get a good grade on exam 3. Here is what I have to study for, for exam 3:

Chapter 28 (Diuretics)
- Carbonic Anhydrase inhibitors (CAI's)
- Loop Diuretics
- Osmotic Diuretics
- Potassium - Sparing Diuretics
- Thiazide and thiazide-like diuretics

Chapter 36
- Antihistamines
- Decongestants
- Antitussives
- Expectorants

Chapter 37 (Respiratory Drugs)
- Beta-Adrenergic Agonsits
- Anticholinergics
- Xanthine Derivatives
- Leukotriene Receptor Antagonists (LTRAs)
- Corticosteroids

Chapter 22 (Antihypertensive Drugs)
- Adrenergic drugs
- Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors
- Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs)
- Calcium channel blockers (CCBs)
- Diuretics
- Vasodialators
- Direct renin Inhibitors

Chapter 23 (Antianginal Drugs)
- Nitrates/nitrites
- Beta-blockers
- Calcium channel blockers

Chapter 27 (Antilipemic Drugs)
- Statin (HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors)
- Niacin (Nicotinic Acid)
- Herbal Products
     - Garlic
     - Flax
     - Omega-3 Fatty Acids
- Bile Acid Sequestrants
-Fibric Acid Derivatives
-Cholesterol Absorption Inhibitors

And these are the basic things we must know about each one:
- Mechanism of Action
- Interactions
- Indications
- Contraindications
- Adverse Effects
- Patient teaching
- Nursing Implications
- Drug effects

You'll need to remember the mechanism of action for each family of drugs.
