The multistep flow model assumes that media effects are indirect and are mediated by opinion leaders. That is, most people receive much of their information and are influenced by the media secondhand, through the personal influence of opinion leaders. The opinion leaders themselves are influenced by more elite media rather than everyday mass media channels. |
