1) Identify three amino acids. Draw the structural formula of each amino acid. On each formula, draw a box around the side chain that makes each amino acid different.

2) what is meant by essential amino acids?
How many essential amino acids are there?
Name three essential amino acids.

3) What is a polyunsaturated and a monounsaturated fatty acid. Which is considered to be beneficial for humans?

Name three essential amino acids.

Essential amino acids are those that cannot be synthesized by the body biochemically, so they need to be obtained from other sources (food).

Of the 22 standard amino acids, 9 are essential. This includes Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine... and a whole lot of others.

3) What is a polyunsaturated and a monounsaturated fatty acid. Which is considered to be beneficial for humans?

--> Polyunsaturated means that the fatty acid has multiple double-bonds.
--> Monounsaturated means that the fatty acid has a single double-bond somewhere thoughout the molecule.

Both are generally considered beneficial, but more so are the polyunsaturated.
