Environmental problems, by their nature, often are not limited to the bounds of particular countries. International law is an important part of solving such transboundary problems. Creative agreements hammered out through hard work and diplomacy will help to solve environmental problems. The United Nations, the World Bank, and a wide variety of nongovernmental organizations are key to workable international law. Conventional law arises from conventions or treaties that nations agree to enter into. The Montreal Protocol was enacted to decrease adverse effects on the ozone layer. Customary law arises from long?standing practices or customs. Its principles are good neighborliness, due diligence, equitable resource use, and the principle of information and cooperation.
