Since the test is a direct test, it detects antigen. The antigens detected are the elementary bodies. 2. Explain the difference between an antigen and an epitope (antigenic determinant) The antigen is the entire foreign particle whereas the epitope is the specific binding site on the antigen that antibodies bind to.
