The basic time-stratigraphic unit is the System. The basic time unit is the Period. Other timestratigraphic/
time unit pairs are Series/Epoch and Stage/Age. Time-stratigraphic units include all
rocks deposited in the indicated time unit. Time units, in contrast, include all of the time
between time unit boundaries. For example, the Devonian System of rocks was deposited during
the Devonian Period
