Title: importins and NLS Post by: Dino_bergomi on Sep 14, 2014 Does anybody know how Importins recruit cargo (proteins, etc) to inside the nucleus? I know that there are specific peptide signals (NLSs) to trigger this, but my question is:
(i) Does the cargo need to be in the vicinity of the nucleus to bind to importins, and be imported; or (ii) are importins able to recruit the cargo from anywhere inside the cell, and traffic it to the nucleus?
