Title: Does menopause arrest follicle maturation and therefore only primary oocytes?
Post by: shangriphysics on Oct 20, 2014
Does menopause arrest follicle maturation and therefore only primary oocytes are left in the ovaries?

Or does menopause stop ovulation, but continue to stimulate maturation of all the follicles until they are all dead because they could not ovulate?

How many primary oocytes, on average, are left in the ovaries at menopause?

I believe it's the depletion in follicle supply that signals the beginning of menopause.
