Title: Bond order for species. Molecular orbital Post by: fodog414 on Oct 27, 2014 The electron configuration of a particular diatomic species is
(sigma2s)^2 (anti-bonding sigma*2s)^2 (sigma 2p)^2 (pi2p)^4 (anti-bonding pi*2p)^1 What is the bond order for this species? A) 4 B) 3.5 C) 3 D) 2.5 E) 2 could someone explain the pi2p^4 orbit? Is that supposed to be pi2p^2? Title: Re: Bond order for species. Molecular orbital Post by: bio_man on Oct 27, 2014 Hey fodog414, see if the answer can be found in one of the two attachments. Answers are at the end of the document in case you're wondering!

Title: Re: Bond order for species. Molecular orbital Post by: fodog414 on Oct 28, 2014 I think i have a small handle on MO diagrams but i'm just getting confused on the pi2p^4 does that ^4 signify 4 electrons in the orbit?

Title: Re: Bond order for species. Molecular orbital Post by: fodog414 on Nov 9, 2014 Ya of course I thought I replied to all the questions
Its actually quite easy there are 8 bonding electrons and there are 3 antibonding electrons so its 8-3/2 which is 2.5 D Title: Re: Bond order for species. Molecular orbital Post by: bio_man on Nov 9, 2014 Oh nice, so skip5284 was right! Will mark as solved.
