Draw the structural formula of (3Z,5Z)-4,5-dimethyl-3,5-nonadiene.

How do i draw the 3Z,5Z stereoisomer

First you should the backbone. The nano indicates that there should be a nine carbon backbone. The diene part simply indicates that there will be two alkene bonds somewhere along the chain. Number the carbons on the backbone from one to nine. At carbon 4 and 5, attach a methyl group on each one (CH3). The (3Z, 5Z) indicates two things. First, carbons three and five have the alkene bond. Make sure carbon three doesn't have the bond between carbon three and two; it is between carbon three and four. Likewise, the other bond is between carbon five and six. Additionally the Z indicates that the substituents on the carbons are on the same side, or cis. Meaning, the higher priority substituent on one carbon is on the same side as the high priority substituent on the other carbon that is part of the alkene bond.
The important thing about these problems is that you need to dissect the name and take it step by step.

Thank you very much Bio_man and rsb.

The visual structure was very helpful.
