Title: What is n initial for line A and what is its wavelength?
Post by: oblique101 on Nov 18, 2014
One electron ion produces an emission spectrum by making various transitions to the n=3 state. If the wavelength of B is 142.5 nm :

what is the value of initial n that produces line B?

What is n initial for line A and what is its wavelength?

I couldn't find a picture for the spectrum but it is supposed to be like this:

                A      B
| | | | | | |    |       |            |
----------wavelength------>

(A line is the 8th from the left)

My solutions manual says n for A equals to 6 and n for B equals to 5, but I keep getting 1 for line B! HELP!

I tried the Rydberg equation so many times but I keep getting errors..... :theblues:
