Title: Re: Using nitrogen as an example, explain the differences between assimilative and d Post by: sci_expert on Apr 4, 2012 Assimilative metabolism reduces a nitrogen compound such as nitrate low only enough to incorporate the nitrogen into a macromolecule such as DNA for the cell. Dissimilative metabolism would further reduce nitrate and excrete it as N2 into the environment.
