1.   Which of the following statements is true of checking the stall speed of a vehicle?

A. The line pressure is higher in reverse and may give a more accurate engine speed.
B. The engine speed in reverse is capped so it gives a more accurate reading.
C. The clutches are less likely to slip in forward gear.
D. The line pressure is lower in reverse and may give a more accurate engine speed.

2.   Technician A says that it should be possible to rotate the automatic transmission/transaxle unit during disassembly and reassembly. Technician B says a transmission overhaul is not complete until it passes a road test. Which technician is correct?

A. Both Technician A and Technician B
B. Technician B only
C. Technician A only
D. Neither Technician A nor Technician B

5.   Technician A says it's important to ensure the cleanliness of all internal parts by wiping them with a clean shop cloth just before installation. Technician B says cleaned parts should be immersed in mineral spirits. Which technician is correct?

A. Both Technician A and Technician B
B. Neither Technician A nor Technician B
C. Technician B only
D. Technician A only

6.   It's critical that the _______ be torqued in the proper sequence to avoid warpage and a possible stuck valve.

A. pump assembly
B. valve body
C. clutch pack
D. valve hoses

7.   Technician A says that when a scan tool is used to command an upshift, the transmission shouldn't be in drive. Technician B says if the scan tool commands a shift to occur and a shift doesn't occur, the problem is either in the shift solenoid itself or the hydraulic system. Who is correct?

A. Technician B only
B. Both Technician A and Technician B
C. Technician A only
D. Neither Technician A nor Technician B

8.   Technician A says that a scan tool can diagnose torque converter clutch problems. Technician B says a tap of the brake pedal causes the converter clutch to release. Who is correct?

A. Both Technician A and Technician B
B. Neither Technician A nor Technician B
C. Technician B only
D. Technician A only

10.   If you install an auxiliary transmission cooler, the hot fluids should travel through the

A. factory cooler, then the auxiliary cooler, then the transmission.
B. transmission, then the auxiliary cooler, then the factory cooler.
C. transmission, then the factory cooler, then the auxiliary cooler.
D. auxiliary cooler, then the factory cooler, then the transmission.

11.   What should be the first item(s) checked when diagnosing an electronic shift transmission problem?

A. Wires and connectors for loose or frayed problems
B. Any diagnostic trouble codes
C. The resistance of the shift solenoids
D. The complaint and fluid level

12.   The _______ often collects wear particles from clutches and bands, and therefore should be inspected carefully or replaced.

A. pump assembly
B. valve body
C. torque converter
D. separator plate

13.   Which of the following parts must be replaced if it's dropped?

A. Pump
B. Pan
C. Torque converter
D. Extension housing

14.   Which of the following scan tool readings (engine at idle) indicates a problem?

A. MAF sensor 3.5 g/s airflow
B. Oxygen sensor fluctuating between 200 and 800 mV
C. MAP sensor between 0.88 and 1.62 V
D. Transmission fluid temperature 315°F

16.   Two technicians are performing an in-vehicle service. Technician A connects a vacuum gauge to the vacuum line from the intake manifold and Technician B starts the engine. Which of the following vacuum readings would indicate that there's a problem with the vacuum modulator?

A. 13 in. Hg
B. 21 in. Hg
C. 19 in. Hg
D. 17 in. Hg

17.   Technician A says the torque converter should be marked for proper installation. Technician B says the brake hoses are strong enough to support the weight of the calipers when removed. Which technician is correct?

A. Both Technician A and Technician B
B. Technician A only
C. Technician B only
D. Neither Technician A nor Technician B

19.   When assembling the pump, the alignment clamp is used to

A. align the pump halves while torqueing the bolts.
B. size the outer seal.
C. help install the outer seal.
