Maslow’s hierarchy of needs consists of: (1) physiological needs—basic needs such as hunger, thirst, shelter, etc., (2) safety and security needs—these needs represent the desire to be free from danger, (3) social needs—these needs reflect our desire for affection and approval by others, (4) esteem needs—these needs represent a desire to feel worthy in the eyes of others, and (5) self-actualization needs—these needs are for self-fulfillment, a full tapping of one’s potential.
