The total cost (in dollars) to produce q units of a good is given by the function:
C(q) = 5.4q + 58000
A. What is the total cost to produce q = 3800 units?
Total cost = S
B. What is the cost of the 3801st item?
cost of the 3801st item S

(a) substitute 3800 into the function:

C(q) = 5.4q + 58000
C(3800) = 5.4(3800) + 58000
= 78520

(b) Set q = 3801
C(3801) = 5.4(3801) + 58000
= 78525.40

The cost is the slope: $5.40
