Title: Two Billiards question.
Post by: Biala on Jul 19, 2019
Two billiard balls of equal mass move at right angles and meet at the origin of an xy coordinate system. Ball A is moving upward along the y axis at vA = 2.4 m/s , and ball B is moving to the right along the x axis with speed vB = 5.2 m/s . After the collision, assumed elastic, ball B is moving along the positive y axis.
What is the final direction of ball A? What are their two speeds?

0 degrees, alpha = 0

I was just asking because I put that answer before and it told me that it wasn't right.

So it's not accepting zero?

I have to turn this in before 11:30 pm too so that sucks. Everything else worked

How about the other question you've got posted>

I was only able to do a couple parts of it. I couldn't figure out the rest.

I haven't looked at it yet. And by the looks of it, won't be able to finish by 11:30 -- sorry :(

In terms of this question, the math check outs, the answer is 0 degrees. What else could it be?

On a side note, a similar example which I just upload also states that the angle is 0.

In that case I really don't know. I really do appreciate the help you have been so helpful.

Maybe add the degree symbol? or rad? Don't know...

Should I attempt to answer the other, or there's no point anymore?

:( sucks

just do us a favor that you post the time limit if one exists on the topics so we know how much time we have, otherwise some of us get lazy

The answer was 90 degrees.

I assumed when they wrote "positive y", they meant ball B goes directly up, as in 90 degrees. Now that you reported 90 degrees, I'm assuming the answer is probably wrong? -- so dispute it, or ask for the solution. How can A go directly up after a collision? I've got to think about this

I will have to ask about it later this week in class but thank you again for the help.
