Title: Two Billiards question. Post by: Biala on Jul 19, 2019 Two billiard balls of equal mass move at right angles and meet at the origin of an xy coordinate system. Ball A is moving upward along the y axis at vA = 2.4 m/s , and ball B is moving to the right along the x axis with speed vB = 5.2 m/s . After the collision, assumed elastic, ball B is moving along the positive y axis.
What is the final direction of ball A? What are their two speeds? Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: bio_man on Jul 19, 2019 Solution below, highlighted parts contain the three answers you're looking for
Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: Biala on Jul 19, 2019 Hey which one is the angle?
Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: bio_man on Jul 19, 2019 0 degrees, alpha = 0
Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: Biala on Jul 19, 2019 I was just asking because I put that answer before and it told me that it wasn't right.

I have to turn this in before 11:30 pm too so that sucks. Everything else worked Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: bio_man on Jul 19, 2019 that is correct. I have to turn this in before 11:30 pm too so that sucks. Everything else worked How about the other question you've got posted> Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: Biala on Jul 19, 2019 I was only able to do a couple parts of it. I couldn't figure out the rest.
Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: bio_man on Jul 19, 2019 I was only able to do a couple parts of it. I couldn't figure out the rest. I haven't looked at it yet. And by the looks of it, won't be able to finish by 11:30 -- sorry :( In terms of this question, the math check outs, the answer is 0 degrees. What else could it be? Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: bio_man on Jul 19, 2019 On a side note, a similar example which I just upload also states that the angle is 0.

Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: bio_man on Jul 19, 2019 In that case I really don't know. I really do appreciate the help you have been so helpful. Maybe add the degree symbol? or rad? Don't know... Should I attempt to answer the other, or there's no point anymore? Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: Biala on Jul 19, 2019 It already has it. No it's okay theres only 3 minutes left.
Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: bio_man on Jul 19, 2019 It already has it. No it's okay theres only 3 minutes left. :( sucks just do us a favor that you post the time limit if one exists on the topics so we know how much time we have, otherwise some of us get lazy Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: Biala on Jul 19, 2019 The answer was 90 degrees.
Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: bio_man on Jul 19, 2019 I assumed when they wrote "positive y", they meant ball B goes directly up, as in 90 degrees. Now that you reported 90 degrees, I'm assuming the answer is probably wrong? -- so dispute it, or ask for the solution. How can A go directly up after a collision? I've got to think about this
Title: Re: Two Billiards question. Post by: Biala on Jul 19, 2019 I will have to ask about it later this week in class but thank you again for the help.
