Mixed 5 players Basketball players in each team :

Or

USA v/s Canada
USA v/s Italy
Canada v/s Greece
Argentina v/s USA

Can this become a popular sport in future?

it would be more interesting idea than effective way of mixing genders. Because if woman were forced to compete with men, there would be few women in sports. Women and men are not equal physically.

There is an overlap between the physical powers of men and women. Each sex also has different qualities of movement.

The two key differentiators are:

1) Muscle mass affecting recognition: It’s true that women have less muscle strength than males and that’s because women have less testosterone which means less strength and smaller muscle mass.

2) Body composition:  Body composition, cardiorespiratory endurance, and nutrition and energy use play a big role as well. Women carry more fat than men. This comes as an advantage in sports such as swimming (see the graph below) but in running and other sports it comes as a huge disadvantage. Men also have the advantage of being able to take in more oxygen which helps their performance.

"Hence it is not the question about equality but biological capacity."

A combination of men’s and women’s talents would make an effective team, and make watching the sport far more interesting.
