9. A 0.500 kg object is thrown vertically upward with an average applied force of 8.20 N by a student. The force is applied through a displacement of 1.50 m.
a. What is the average net force acting on the object?
b. What is the velocity of the object when it leaves the student’s hand? (Assume initial velocity is zero)

This is the question and I have to use the grasp method. I'm not sure how to clearly find the answer if it is possible for a step-by-step solution, that would be great, have a good one! :lol:

is the direction for acceleration up?

In the answer sheet for b, it says the answer is 4.45 m/s

You're right :lol: I forgot to upload the rest of the answer:

So, Fg is going down, it should be negative (-4.90). When we combine Fapp with -4.90, we get Fnet:

Fnet = 8.20 + (-4.90) = 3.30 N.

3.30 N is positive.

Does that make more sense?
