Title: How I can solve this exmple?
Post by: Abdularhman on Jan 7, 2022
 4. In an experiment, you drop a gummy bear (15% water) and a potato (45% water) into a beaker of
pure water. You allow the samples to sit for 24 hours. What will happen to both of the samples in
this experiment? Explain.

B) You then place the samples back in the beaker, but this time you add enough sugar to the
water that it becomes syrup (45% water). What do you expect to happen now?

If the gummy bear consists of 15% water, and is placed in a medium of pure water 100%, the water will flow into the gummy bear, making them swell due to osmosis. The solution is hypotonic relative to the specimens.

The same can be said about the potato.

For the gummy bear, water will still flow into the gummy bear, making it swell. The potato, on the other hand, given that the percentage is the same as the solution, it will remain the way it is because the solution isotonic relative to the potato.

Does that help?
