Title: Charge, then brought near (i.e., within about 1/10 the length of the rod) to end A of the rod. What Post by: Mohamud Nooh on Apr 19, 2022 A small metal ball is given a negative charge, then brought near (i.e., within about 1/10 the length of the rod) to end A of the rod. What happens to end A of the rod when the ball approaches it closely this first time?
A)strongly repelled B)strongly attracted C)weakly attracted D)weakly repelled E)neither attracted nor repelled Title: Re: Charge, then brought near (i.e., within about 1/10 the length of the rod) to end A of the rod. ... Post by: brown_02 on Apr 20, 2022 C)weakly attracted Due to charging by induction, and negative charge on the small metal ball, the end A of the rod will acquire charge opposite to that of the metal ball. Hence the end A of the rod will acquire positive charge. Also, since opposite charges attract each other, the negative metal ball and the positive charge on the end A of the rod will attract each other. But, since a small amount of positive charge will be induced hence the ball and end A of the rod will be weakly attracted. |
