Title: reaction between magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid
Post by: oldcollegelady on Sep 20, 2010
Hello,

The question is as follows that I need to know to study for my exam.
Rolaids is an antacid which contains magnesium hydroxide. Using this information, write the reaction that shows what happens when you take a Rolaids tablet to combat excess hydrochloric acid in your stomach.

would the answer be:

HCl + Mg(OH)2 ------> MgCl + 2 H2O ??????? :-\ ::)

thanks

Mg(OH)2 (s) + 2 HCl (aq) > MgCl2 (aq) + 2H2O (l)

Should look more like this. I hope you get an A.
