The sympathetic division increases arousal and uses energy. The parasympathetic division slows the body and stores and conserves energy. Example—A stressful situation, such as giving a speech, causes increased sympathetic activity and arousal. When the speech is over, the parasympathetic division slows body functions to normal. |
