Title: Physioex 8.0 Exercise 7/Please I need help. My simulator is not working and this Post by: eyesofchina on Mar 27, 2011 Please I need help. My simulator is not working and this assignment is due in 10 hours
Variations in Breathing Activity 6: Rapid Breathing 1. What happens to the PCO2 level in the blood during rapid breathing? 2. Why? (HINT: Compare the amount of CO2 generated by the body to the amount of CO2 exhaled from the lungs.) 3. What acid/base disturbance does this cause? (HINT: Refer to Lab Exercise 10) Activity 7: Rebreathing 1. What happens to the PCO2 level in the blood during rebreathing? Why? 2. Did the total flow change? Why? 3. What acid/base disturbance might result from this? Activity 8: Breath Holding 1. What happens to the PCO2 level during breath holding? 2. Why? 3. What change was seen when you returned to “Normal Breathing”? Activity 9: Comparative Spirometry 1. What do you think is the clinical importance of the FVC and FEV1 values? Why do you think the ratio of these two values is important to the clinician when diagnosing lung disease? 2. In “Normal Breathing”, FEV1/FVC x 100% = ______ % 3. In “Emphysema Breathing”, is the FVC reduced or increased? __________Is the FEV1 increased or decreased? __________ Which of these changed more? ________ 4. In “Acute Asthma Attack Breathing”, is the FVC reduced or increased? __________ Is the FEV1 reduced or increased? ___________ Which of these is changed more? Why did the lung volumes and/or capacities change in the spirogram for this condition? 5. In “Acute Asthma Attack Breathing with Inhaler Medication Applied”, has the FVC reduced or increased or is it normal? _________ Has the FEV1 reduced or increased or is it normal? _________ Why did the medicine make the volumes or capacities change? _____________________________ _____ 6. In “Breathing During Exercise”, which of these changed the most, ERV or IRV? _________ Did the respiratory rate change and if so, did it increase or decrease? __________________ What is the difference between “hyperventilation” and “hyperpnea”? Which occurred here? ________________ Title: Re: Physioex 8.0 Exercise 7/Please I need help. 5. PCO2 decreased during rapid breathing because more CO2 was removed from the blood than normal. Each breath expels a certain amount of CO2. If the breathing rate increases, then more CO2 is expelled. Rebreathing 2. PCO2 increases during rebreathing because the CO2 gradient is being increased by breathing air with a high CO2 content. The depth and rate of respirations increased during rebreathing. This is due in part to the increased CO2 in the blood causing stimulating of the respiratory centers in the brain stem. Breath Holding 3. PCO2 increased dramatically during breath holding. The rate and depth of breathing increased slightly for a brief period when normal breath- ing resumed to allow PCO2 rates to decrease to the normal range.
