For the independent-measures t statistic, what is the effect of increasing the difference between sample means?

For the independent-measures t statistic, what is the effect of increasing the difference between sample means?

a. Increase the likelihood of rejecting H0 and increase measures of effect size.
b. Increase the likelihood of rejecting H0 and decrease measures of effect size.
c. Decrease the likelihood of rejecting H0 and increase measures of effect size.
d. Decrease the likelihood of rejecting H0 and decrease measures of effect size.

The answer should be D.

Increasing the difference between the sample means is another way of saying that there is more variance in the samples. If there is more variance between the samples, it will be more difficult to reject the null hypothesis and the effect size will be diminished.
