Post by: mikael on Apr 22, 2011 Lamarck believed that organisms had the capability of evolving within their lifetime. Subsequently, these acquired traits would get passed on to their offspring. Darwin, on the other hand, proposed that the environment (nature) selects traits in a population that are best suited for survival; therefore, there is variation to begin with.

Post by: padre on Apr 22, 2011 Lamarck thought that animals are adapted to the changes in their surroundings during the lifetime and pass on these changes to their offspring. for example a giraffe's neck got longer as it stretched for leaves higher up on trees. This made its neck and bit longer, so its offspring had necks a bit longer too. Darwin's theory of evolution on the other hanf is basically Natural selection or survival for the fittest. According to him, the changes in the generation is due to genetic mutations. Sometimes these are beneficial. For example a calf born more muscular than the rest will be more likely to mate and consequently pass on his genes to his offspring. Thank you! Actually, thank you both :D |
