Different guests who are posting one after the other on the same thread are being considered the same user, and so all posts are being merged. :thi:

I reported this also. I loved the luxury of a one-button login.

No sweat, it's just more convenient for some of us to have it.

By the way, I'm sure you're really starting to hate this thread ;)

More to come, but hopefully not too many.

Something has to be done about the growing number of users who are not getting a confirmation email after registering. :-\

Something just got done :)

The problem, I think, was that certain users were registering at the same time the server was being flushed of its memory cache. Obviously a user would have no idea this is happening, but this needs to executed in order for the website to run smoothly. Anyway, I changed the intervals so that occurs four times a day instead of every 15 minutes, which is what it was on previously.

Not sure if my account has been hacked or maybe there is another user with the same username as mine "micro" but its showing that I have created several (4 to be precise) forum threads such as "What is the basic function of Actin and Myosin Filaments in Muscle.?" and "units of actin and myosin are arranged end to end in order to" amongst others. I have only created one thread called "Calculate Mean Total Abundance and Total Abundance". However when i click on "micro" (i.e. my username) on the posts and threads I have not created, my profile shows including my email etc. Is it possible to maybe check the ip where my account has been accessed?

Sometimes I have to try 3-4 times to load a page correctly. Usually, when that happen, I have a white blank screen on my browser, while other times (rarely) I have a white blank screen and some text like this:

2: Error while sending QUERY packet. PID=13168
File: /home/biologyf/public_html/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 341Database Error: MySQL server has gone away
File: /home/biologyf/public_html/Sources/Load.php
Line: 2532

Or this one:

2: mysql_query(): MySQL server has gone away
/home/biologyf/public_html/Sources/Subs.php
341: MySQL server has gone away
/home/biologyf/public_html/Sources/Load.php
2532

(I think in that case I clicked "home" and that text appeared on the browser)

Note that it may be my pc fault! (though I haven't experienced that problem at other sites)

In addition: Sometimes when I click "home", it doesn't show the "recently updated topics", "unanswered questions" or "latest articles".
Instead, there a text like this:

Notice: Undefined index: BAN_CHECK_IP in /home/biologyf/public_html/Sources/Load.php on line 534 Warning: mysql_query(): MySQL server has gone away in /home/biologyf/public_html/Sources/Subs.php on line 341 Warning: mysql_query(): Error reading result set's header in /home/biologyf/public_html/Sources/Subs.php on line 341 : MySQL server has gone away
/home/biologyf/public_html/Sources/Load.php
642: MySQL server has gone away
/home/biologyf/public_html/Sources/Load.php
2532

I hope I didn't confuse you!

Thanks, Alex. It is definitely on issue on our part, and we're trying to fix it as soon as possible. Hopefully by tonight, all will be well.

To-do list:

- Fix the number of badges that are shown in member profile view.
- Show the moderator badge when local moderator makes an ordinary post.

Is it just me, or there it says "post merge 15 hours ago" while the original post was some minutes ago?

P.S. I eddited the merged post but I didn't change the "merge post commant" line. Or I think I didn't...

Title: Re: Report Issues Here (Official Thread)
Post by: bio_man on Jan 6, 2013
The time that is stated was when the two posts were merged. We added that modification so that people don't intentionally bump their post before 24 hours of making the first one. After 24 hours, the modifications doesn't kick in anymore.

Therefore, "post merge 15 hours ago" means that the post was merged 15 hours ago.

Things to do...

Make the forum shop more accessible and noticeable (as per Alexx):

Quote
At "edit profile" you can add more options:

a) change username
b) add/remove region flag
and maybe:
c) Get a 'On Hiatus' Tag
d) Get a 'Valued member' Tag

and if an unwary member click on these links, he will be redirected to the shop (and he will be told what he must do to make these changes)

(more options can also be added at other places.
For example: when a member starts a new topic you can add this option:
-Make your topic a sticky for 30 days!)

Title: Re: Report Issues Here (Official Thread)
Post by: bio_man on Jan 13, 2013
To-do:

Adding pictures in bulk doesn't count shop credits.

At "profile" the "edit profile" and "avatar settings" get me to the same place.

At "profile" the "edit profile" and "avatar settings" get me to the same place.

Yes, that is intentional, since both the editing part and the avatar part lead to the same location. I tried programming it where it would automatically open the tab for each link, but I couldn't. But I will officially declare that not a mistake ;)

To-do, correct dates on active members (as per Alex).

I think the "click to show" button, must become "click to hide" when you click it :) Well, I don't think it's too crucial.

It keeps saying I have to have a minimum 100 character count when posting, when I could just answer multiple choice questions with one letter earlier today.

Title: Re: Report Issues Here (Official Thread)
Post by: Alexx on Aug 13, 2013
Are you sure that the minimum is 100 characters? I just tested it and it seems that the minimum requirement for posting is just 2 characters.

^^ but, this is less than 100 characters. What if you try to use 2 (or more) characters to answer these questions? Does the same happens? And, though I don't think I can help myself, I think it would help the admin if you posted the specific topic (which you attempted to answer).

Title: Re: Report Issues Here (Official Thread)
Post by: bio_man on Aug 13, 2013
I believe it was on 100 for a brief period of time, a couple of hours tops - yesterday. It was done by accident, but then it was changed to two (which was the original configuration) for the longest time. If that's an issue, just bold the letter, so in stead of answering:

C

Make it;

C --> C

Now there are over six characters here.

Please reply back if it's still an issue!

Good question...

1) Register --> Activate account
2) Click "Ask a Question" button at the bottom right --> If a reply is made, you get an email
3) You're good to go.

I designed this website to make it fool-proof for everyone.

I applaud you guys that run this site, it takes a lot of work, i see to be on top of what needs fixing.
Its almost like a house, although you have it there are always maintenance jobs that needs to be done.
So Thank you for putting up with us, and being ready to help us.

I don't know if this is an issue or not, but just a FYI to others. I found that if you download something with a download accelerator, like IDM, that each thread is counted as a download. So if downloading one file w/2 connection threads, it counts as 2 downloads.

I'm new around here, i honestly don't feel that this forum is good, no offence to Admin.
I was going through some threads and it says that i have to get a paid subscription to view the best answer. You can't put a price on knowledge.

Hi there,
I currently work as a pentester and I wanted to point out a few security issues that if addressed could improve the overall security of this forum's users and the quality:

- Implement mandatory HTTPS. This would require the administrators to redirect every connection on an http (cleartext) channel to https (encrypted). It would also require implementing a third party signed certificate.
- Disable obsolete https cipher suites. You should only support TLS 1.1 and greater and disable every CBC and RC4 based ciphers.
- Implement a CAPTCHA system. The current CAPTCHA system is not properly implemented. The answer for the CAPTCHA can be seen on the http code. Creating a bot that can fetch those answers (thus creating an infinite amount of accounts) is trivial. You should consider implementing reCAPTCHA or similar.
- Enforce a password policy. Passwords should be at least 8 characters, contain lower and upper caps letters, numbers and special characters. Of course these are the best practices, if this is too hard to implement, a password with at least 8 characters a number and upper-lower caps letters is sufficient.

Hope this helps!
Kind Regards,
Alex.
