** A plant species has 12 chromosomes in its diploid set. If you consider genetic recombination, how many different gametes may be produced?

**In a species of plant, a cross between a homozygous blue-flowered plant and a homozygous red-flowered plant yields all yellow-flowered plants.
When F1 plants are crossed, phenotypes observed in the F2 progeny are:yellow, red, blue and violet.
Indicate the symbols corresponding to the different alleles and show genotypes to Homozygous blue, red , and F1 yellow flowered plants.
I know the answer but why do we need to put B>b and R>r
then correspond BBrr to blue and bbRR to red when they're actually homozygous?
