Title: Gaseous nitrogen and hydrogen undergo a reaction to form gaseous ammonia (the Haber process).?
Post by: bugaian on Feb 19, 2012
Write the chemical equation.
At a temperature of 400 degrees C and a total pressure of 250 atm, 0.720g of NH3 was produced by the reaction 2.80g N2, with excess H2.
What is the percent yield of this reaction?

N2  +  3 H2  -->  2 NH3
moles of N2  =  2.80 / 28  =  0.100  (Mr of N2 = 28)
expected moles of NH3  =  0.200  (1:2 ratio in equation)
expected mass of NH3  =  0.200 * 17  =  3.40g  (Mr of NH3 = 17)
%yield  =  (0.720/3.40)*100  =  21.2%
