Shown below is a ribbon representation of a protein domain. Name the recognizable secondary structures a, b, (c & d). Are c and d parallel or antiparallel?

Welcome.

A and B (alpha helix)

C and D (beta-pleated sheets)

Typically parallel beta sheets are large structures that usually consist of at least five strands. Therefore, I would have to say they are anti-parallel. In antiparallel beta sheets, the beta strands run in the opposite direction. Anti-parallel beta sheets can consist of as few as two strands.

What are your thoughts?
