Kinetic energy is the energy of motion (examples include heat, light, electricity, a car moving), and potential energy is stored energy (examples include energy in chemical bonds, batteries, child sitting at the top of a slide).

Potential Energy = A BIG rock on top of a Cliff

Kinetic  Energy = BIG Rock rolling down the cliff.
