Title: Chromosomal basis of inheritance
Post by: Avradeep on Aug 12, 2015
In the hexaploid wheat(6n=42) , the haploid(n) and basic(x) numbers of chromosome are -
a) n=7 , x=21
b) n=21 , x= 21
c) n=21 , x=14
d) n=21 , x=7

I thought that haploid numbers of chromosome is 7. As 7*6=42. but the ans is D
I don't understand this. And I don't know what is basic number. So please help me with proper explanation.

I went through many books but didn't get a proper explanation. Though I found this question in 3 different books but none gave an explanation. Only the correct option was given.
