Title: Nephrons and hormones
Post by: lachicalaura on Sep 10, 2015
1. The final step in the hormonal system by which the nephron controls water regulation are the influence of the hormone, __________, which acts to ____________ the ____________ of _____________ by the nephron, as well as ___________ the secretion of _____________ by the _____________, which leads to ____________ permeability of the ____________. The end result is _________ blood volume and pressure, which shut the system off due to the negative feedback loop.

2.When your body becomes overheated, coping mechanisms include sweating, and __________ of subcutaneous vasculature to increase the surface are available to radiate heat. Evaporative cooling of the sweat draws heat away from the cutaneous surfaces and thus the subcutaneous vasculature. If overheating continues, and fluids are not replenished, then fluid balance is disrupted. The loss of  fluid results in __________ blood volume and concomitant __________ in blood pressure. This change in blood pressure cannot be countered through __________ of the peripheral vasculature, because the peripheral vasculature is already __________ to increase surface area and disperse heat through evaporative cooling. Blood pressure regulation must then fall to the __________, in which the ________ system is the method by which blood pressure is regulated.

1. The final step in the hormonal system by which the nephron controls water regulation are the influence of the hormone, ALDOSTERONE, which acts to INCREASE the REABSORPTION of SODIUM by the nephron, as well as INCREASE the secretion of ADH by the POSTERIOR PITUITARY, which leads to INCREASE permeability of the DCT. The end result is HIGHER blood volume and pressure, which shut the system off due to the negative feedback loop.
(these answers only scored an 8/10, don't know which of the two are incorrect)

2. When your body becomes overheated, coping mechanisms include sweating, and
DILATION of subcutaneous vasculature to increase the surface area available to radiate heat. Evaporative cooling of the sweat draws heat away from the cutaneous surfaces and thus the subcutaneous vasculature. If overheating continues, and fluids are not replenished, then fluid balance is disrupted. The loss of fluid results in LOWER blood volume and a concomitant DECREASE in blood pressure. This change in blood pressure cannot be countered through CONSTRICTION of the peripheral vasculature, because the peripheral vasculature is already DILATED to increase surface area and disperse heat through evaporative cooling. Blood pressure regulation must then fall to the KIDNEYS, in which the RENIN-ANGIOTENSIN system is the method by which blood pressure is regulated.
