The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) surveys freshmen and seniors about their levels of engagement in campus and classroom activities. Among the many questions on the NSSE, students were asked how often they were assigned a paper of 20 pages or more during the academic year. For a sample of 19 colleges – the 19 that made their data publicly available through the U.S. News & World
Report website – here are the percentages of students who said they were assigned between 5-10 twenty page papers:
0, 5, 3, 3, 1, 10, 2, 2, 3, 1, 2, 4, 2, 1, 1, 1, 4, 3, 5
a) Create a frequency table for these data. Include third and fourth columns for percentages and cumulative percentages, respectively.
b) For what percentage of these schools did exactly 4% of their students report that they wrote 5-10 twenty page papers per year?
c) For what percentage of schools did 4% or fewer students report that they wrote 5-10 twenty page papers per year?
d) Is a histogram or a bar chart more appropriate for this data? Create the graph (histogram or bar chart) that you decide is most appropriate.
e) Is this a random sample? Explain your answer.

4. Consider these three variables: finishing times in a marathon, # of university dining hall means eaten in a semester on a three-meal-a-day plan, and scores on a scale of extroversion.
a. Which of these variables is most likely to have a positively skewed distribution? Explain your answer.
b. Which of these variables is most likely to have a negatively skewed distribution? Explain your answer.

a. Which of these variables is most likely to have a positively skewed distribution? Explain your answer.
b. Which of these variables is most likely to have a negatively skewed distribution? Explain your answer.

a. Extroversion scale - Extraversion is chosen as a measure of one's social skills. it is very high and very low for very few people. Most of them have a an average score for it and hence, if we consider the distribution the scores, it will be bell shaped

b. Finishing times in a marathon - Most of the seriously participating candidates will finish it around a time which is closer to that of the winner. But there are few who wish, just to complete it. They take more time, but their frequency will be low. Hence, the distribution will be positively skewed.

c. Number of university dining hall meals eaten in a semester on a three-meal-a-day plan - few students will not be regular, but most of the students will be taking meals every day. Hence, more frequency is in the upper side and hence it is negatively skewed
