Title: Someone explain the difference between bacteria and archaea Post by: psyche360 on Sep 23, 2015 I know they are both prokaryotes, but what's the main difference?
Title: Re: Someone explain the difference between bacteria and archaea Post by: habiba on Sep 23, 2015 They are both pretty much the same except for these differences:
Unlike bacteria, archaea cell walls do not contain peptidoglycan. Archaea have different membrane lipid bonding compared to Bacteria and Eucarya. - Archaea membrane lipids have ether bonds instead of ester bonds (https://biology-forums.com/gallery/47/6_23_09_15_3_49_03.jpeg) (https://biology-forums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view&id=22607) There are genetic differences. Archaea have different metabolic pathways. - Archaea do not use glycolysis pathway to break down glucose |
