Title: How DID the creatures get to Galapagos islands?

I'm studying Biology, and currently about Evolution and Darwin's book, "Origin of the Species".  So, where did the life come from, if all life requires ancestors.
and the variety of plant life?

birds and insects were blown there in storms
 and
 reptiles floated over on natural rafts, such as driftwood

Either flew, or by water (swimming or rafting).

It's also possible that the island was once part of the continent, but drifted away over a long period of time.
