Title: How does difference in osmotic potential b/w the source and the sink drive active transport in phloem? Post by: rkdgh2002 on Sep 3, 2012 From what I know, osmotic potential is the same as solute potential. My AP released test says that the difference in this osmotic potential between the source and the sink of a plant drives the active transport (of probably, sucrose) in the phloem. Why would osmotic potential matter in an active transport system? Why does the difference in concentration of the solute matter when we're not talking about diffusion?
