:-$ In lactose operon for each of the following two partial diploids. Explain whether mRNA synthesis is constitutive or inducible  :o

(a )i+ oC z- y- / i- o+ z+ y+

(b) i+ o+ z+ y+ / i+ oC z+ y+

a) it is inducible. The left-hand operator is mutated to the constitutive state but the two  genes in front of it are mutated. The right hand operon has a normal operator and normal set of genes - therefore it is inducible.

b) it is constitutive. The right hand operon has a mutated operator meaning the repressor can not bind and therefore the genes are always being expressed.
