As representatives of the Catholic Church, Spanish missionaries:
A) thought religious belief was extremely personal and should be left up to the individual.
B) saw their role among the natives in social terms and sought to improve the general standard of living.
C) believed that the Church of Rome represented the one true faith and all other beliefs were in error.
D) treated the natives as fellow human beings in the eyes of God and thus worthy of respect.
