Title: How can I determine whether the genotype of a green-pod plant is homozygous or heterozygous?
Post by: microB on Sep 25, 2012
 A. Self-pollinate the green-pod plant.
 B. Cross the green-pod plant with a yellow-pod plant.
 C. Cross the green-pod plant with another green-pod plant

I'm pretty sure that A is not correct, but I'm confused on B or C.

You would cross it with a yellow-pod plant.  Since this yellow plant carries the recessive phenotype you know that both of it's alleles will be yy.  The green one, on the other hand could be YY or Yy.

If the green plant is YY then the YY x yy cross will give you all Yy or all green plants.

If the green plant is Yy then the Yy x yy cross will give you half green and half yellow.
