Title: I have read several definitions of what an allele is, but none of them make sense to me? Post by: rkim12 on Sep 26, 2012 Is there any way to describe what in the world an allele is in very simple, easy to understand terms? "Alternate forms of a gene" means nothing to me.

If this is one sequence observed in a population: AACTGTACTATGTGAT and this sequence is also observed in the population AACTGTATTATGTGAT then the population has two different alelles at that point in the genome. |
