Title: PhysioEx 8.0 Exercise 8 - Chemical and Physical Properties of Digestion
Post by: redsoxgrl on Jun 22, 2011
Hey everyone.

I'm stuck on exercise 8, Activities 4 and 5.  I posted some answers i put in parenthesis but i am not sure if im right.  Thanks in advance :)

Activity 4

7.  Explain the difference in activity between tubes 1 and 2. ( i put tube 1 had greater activity due to the presence of bile)

Can we determine if fat hydrolysis has occured in tube 6? (i put no) Explain your answer.  (i put ph is too similar to tube 3)

Which pH resulted in maximum lipase activity?

Can we determine if fat hydrolysis has occured in tube 5?

In theory would lipase be active in the mouth?

Would it be active in the stomach?

Explain your answers.

What is the substrate, and what subunit is formed in this experiment?

Activity 5

what do these movements accomplish (meaning the tongue and the larynx when swallowing water)

Activity 5

what do these movements accomplish (meaning the tongue and the larynx when swallowing water)

Activity 5

The larynx is elevated during swallowing. These movements close the nasopharynx and the laryngopharynx to prevent water from entering the airway.
