The sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are like opposites; one increases the heart rate and one lowers it; one induces urination and the other inhibits it.  In general the sympathetic nervous system deals more with action (increased heart rate) while the parasympathetic nervous system deals with rest (lowered heart rate).
