You find two mutant white mice in a large colony of wild-type brown mice. You do a complementation test by crossing each of the new mutants to 5 different white mice homozygous for previously-known recessive mutations a, b, c, d, and e, respectively. You obtain offspring with the following phenotypes:
Crosses to known mutants

New mutant  a            b            c            d            e
mouse 1      all brown all brown all brown all brown all brown
mouse 2      all brown all brown all brown all white all brown

What are the genotypes of the two new mutant mice for all five genes, plus any new mutant genes identified in these crosses? Use capital letters to denote the wild-type allele for each of the five genes. Use additional letters to represent any new genes identified.

mouse 2

Would you be able to update us with the solution? :)

Mouse 1: AABBCCCDDEE, since all of these mutants complement mouse 1's mutation. This tells us that the offspring are heterozygous in each case. I t must be homozygous mutant for an additional gene involved in pigment biosynthesis; for example ff.

Mouse 2: AABCCddEE, since mutant d (with genotype dd) fails to complement, it means mouse 1 must also be genotype dd.
