The Thomas theorem involves an individual's subjective definition of the situation. Such definitions vary from person to person and from situation to situation. Such interpretations are based on symbols and the meaning we attach to them. If the Thomas theorem were more aligned with the conflict or functionalist perspective, there would be a consistency of interpretation by a group rather than an individual. This interpretation would also have a greater likelihood of being objective rather than subjective.
