Engineering – Chemical Process Safety question:

A laboratory has a floor area of 4,800 ft 2 and a volume of 74,300 ft 3 . The air ventilation rate of the laboratory is 4,800 ft 3 /min. A nitrogen gas cylinder is used in the lab. for some experiments. The volume of nitrogen in the gas cylinder is 1.76 ft 3 and at 2500 psig. Assume that nitrogen gas behaves ideally under those conditions.

a) Estimate the oxygen concentration in the lab after the failure of the gas cylinder and all nitrogen is released to the space in the lab (the initial oxygen concentration in air in the lab is 21%), assuming that the nitrogen released from the cylinder displaces the air in the lab and the air ventilation doesn’t have a significant dilution effect for a short time right after the release of nitrogen in the lab?

b) The nitrogen cylinder is replaced by a continuous source of nitrogen from a small nitrogen plant. The flowrate of nitrogen from the plant to the lab is 19.3 SCFM. In case of the failure of the nitrogen pipe inside the lab. (the pipe supplies nitrogen to the lab from the nitrogen plant), resulting in a continuous release of nitrogen within the lab., determine oxygen concentration in the lab for this case, given the no-ideal mixing factor of the air ventilation, k, is 0.01?

help plzzz :worried:
